Ingredients
  

  • 12 oz vegan ground beef like Beyond Meat
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 15 oz can of lentils, drained and rinsed
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 15 oz can tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • ½ tsp salt or to taste
  • 6 burger buns

Method
 

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the vegan ground beef and cook for about 5-7 minutes until browned. Break it into smaller pieces with a wooden spoon.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook for about 5 minutes until soft. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the lentils, chili powder, smoked paprika, tomato sauce, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and maple syrup. Mix well and bring to a simmer. Cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce thickens.
  4. Taste the mixture and adjust seasoning with salt, hot sauce, or more maple syrup if desired.
  5. Toast the burger buns in a skillet or toaster if desired. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto the buns. Add any desired toppings and serve hot.
