Method
Prepare the Tofu:
- Press tofu with towels and a heavy object or tofu press for 20-30 minutes to remove moisture.
- Cut pressed tofu into thin slices, about ¼ inch thick.
Marinate:
- Mix olive oil, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili flakes (optional) in a bowl.
- Toss tofu slices in marinade, coating evenly. Let sit 15-20 minutes.
Cook:
- Oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C). Arrange slices in a single layer on parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy.
- Air Fryer: Preheat to 350°F (175°C). Arrange tofu in a single layer in the basket. Cook 15-20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Cool and Serve:
- Let cool for 5 minutes to crisp up further.
- Serve immediately alone, with dips, or as crunchy salad toppers.
Notes
Flavor Variations:
- Smoky BBQ: Add 1 Tbsp BBQ sauce.
- Lemon Herb: Add zest of 1 lemon + 1 Tsp dried rosemary.
- Chili Lime: Add 1 Tsp chili powder + juice of half a lime.
